thinning apricots
We have a Blenheim apricot now going into its sixth leaf since we planted it as a bare root. Last year it produced 3 or 4 apricots. This year the fruit set is frightening. There are spurs with as many as 8 clustered on them in varying sizes Is there any rule of thumb of what to percentage to thin out and what to leave, and when it should be done? I'd think you'd leave the largest and that the sooner it is done the better to channel growth into the residuals. Any thoughts?
