My carrots have been growing nicely since May. I'm a 1st time carrot planter so how do I know when to pick them? The tops of some are starting to poke up through the dirt.

You can pick them at anytime. Now for baby carrots, later in the fall for bigger carrots. They'll get sweeter after a frost, and you can even leave them in the ground over winter for harvesting during thaws.

Oh ya, lots of people store their carrots "in the garden" so to speak.
