I have a large crab apple tree with thick roots in that area. Because it will be difficult to dig deep, my friend suggested that I plant annuals. Are there any perennials that come in a small pot? I would need approximately three flats of impatiens which would be quite costly.
Thanks,
Karen

When I need a large amount of perennials, I start with hostas or daylillies as they bloom nicely and spread quickly. Then I fill in the spaces with bulbs and annuals until the area looks the way I want it to. You can always change to other perennials little by little when you purchase them.
When you purchase bulbs, be sure to order all you need of one type at the same time. I waited a year to order the same daffodil bulbs but they bloomed at different times.
