Grapes

I've always had a fascination with those who can successfully grow grape vines year after year. I haven't the slightest idea how to start myself, though, so any beginner tips?

I have a vine which is growing up a trellis. I live in Wicklow, Ireland so not a very warm climate but it is doing well. I suggest you buy a vine plant from your garden centre or get seeds to grow one in a pot and then plant it out. I bought mine in Lidl, a well know supermarket that sells just about everything! It is climbing beautifully and has produced a crop but they are not very edible due to the wet summer we have just had.
I also have a home in Germany on the Moselle river where vines grow everywhere. They are hugely successful there. The weather is warmer in summer though which makes a huge difference to the vine. I like the leaves though just for their decorative value.
