I love edemame, and would really like to try growing my own. Has anyone had any experience with it, and are there any special considerations? I don't even know how it grows, as I've only had it served to me. :)

Hi,
I just grew edamame this year for the 1st time. It was very easy, and had a lovely harvest. I'm in zone 6, NY state and I planted the bean seeds on Memorial day weekend. I watered about 1 inch a week (or rain) and just harvested the pods on August 15th exactly 85 days from planting. I got the seeds from Jung's online. www.jungseed.com.
I'm freezing what I can't eat now, they should last thru winter I would think. The only pest that bothered with them was japanese beetles on the leaves, but I don't think that effected the harvest. The grow very much like bush string beans, about 1.5 feet high plants, no staking or trellis needed.
Good luck!
